Celsius Tankers has expanded its LNG fleet with a fresh shipbuilding order. The company, part of Denmark-based Celsius Shipping, has contracted South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries for a new LNG carrier.
The vessel will have a cargo capacity of 180,000 cubic metres. Moreover, the deal strengthens Celsius Tankers’ long-term expansion strategy in the LNG shipping segment.
Fleet Expansion Continues
With this order, Celsius Tankers’ LNG fleet will grow to 24 vessels. The company has been steadily increasing its presence in LNG transportation.
In addition, the newbuilding program spans shipyards in both China and South Korea. Currently, more than 10 vessels of similar size are either planned or under construction.
Contract Value and Shipyard Details
Samsung Heavy Industries disclosed the contract earlier through a regulatory filing. The shipbuilder valued the deal at approximately KRW 368 billion, or about $255 million.
However, the buyer’s identity was not revealed at that time. The latest update confirms Celsius Tankers as the customer behind the order.
Delivery Timeline and Market Outlook
The LNG carrier is scheduled for delivery by the end of May 2028. Therefore, the vessel will join the fleet during a period of strong LNG trade growth.
Meanwhile, global LNG demand continues to rise due to energy transition trends. As a result, shipping companies are expanding fleets to secure long-term charter opportunities.
LNG Shipping Demand Supports New Orders
Fleet expansion reflects positive LNG shipping fundamentals. Increasing gas trade, especially in Asia and Europe, has supported vessel demand.
Moreover, modern large-capacity carriers improve transport efficiency and reduce per-unit costs. Consequently, shipowners are focusing on larger vessels like the 180,000 cu m class.
